Emily DeVito Goodman is a multidisciplinary artist whose work examines movement, memory, repetition, and the physical trace of live performance. Drawing from her career as a professional ballerina, her photographic practice documents dance from within the experience of performing it, rather than from the perspective of an outside observer.

Emily earned her BFA in Ballet from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she trained under the direction of Susan Jaffe. Her career has taken her throughout the United States and internationally, dancing in New York City, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Montana, Wyoming, Denmark, New Zealand, and Japan. She has danced as a soloist with San Diego Ballet, as a guest artist with Los Angeles Ballet, and as a freelance performer and SAG-AFTRA member, appearing in productions including Amazon Prime’s Étoile and the movie Billy Knight, starring Al Pacino.

Throughout her career, the camera has remained her quiet, behind-the-scenes throughline—a way of preserving the fleeting moments that, to her, meant everything.

Emily currently divides her time between Los Angeles and New York. While she continues to dance, this body of work encompasses a defining chapter of her professional life.
